A Whisper to the Khulna River

March 31, 2013 § 1 Comment

Dawn to dusk, the rowboat lurks,

The river water beneath glimmers

A reflection of teal tainted lust,

Overcast shadow of lovers at work,

Bodies that gently melt into one another,

Ripples like whispers across the water,

In the dark secret of twilight

In the shade of nightfall, the stars appear,

The moon hangs like a clock in the sky,

The lust of lovers ended in the water,

She wraps a sari around her hips,

Smiles coy at the man with almond eyes

As the boat rocks to a stop at water’s edge,

Parting words a whisper to the Khulna River

In the light of dawn her tender feet traipse home,

Ankles alight with sounds of nupurs,

Declaration of love from a lover across the city

Where the rowboat lurks in patience

Waiting for her return, to capture

The lovers’ teal tainted lust

One final time.
