The Breath of Suffocation

We were plummeting like rain to a hilltop,
our bloodied knees and muddied hands
grasping at solid ground.

You tumbled down, brushing
green grass and white lilies,
but I peeked blood between my thumbs,
tasted skin through my teeth
and fell below earth.
